Students trip to Klaipeda: from employers' advices to suggestions

The end of the week was unusual for the Transport Logistics‘ students of Vilnius College of Technologies and Design (VTDK) - instead of lectures in familiar spaces, they went to Klaipeda, where they got acquainted with the activities of companies. Here, employers gave not only advice how to become successful, but also career offers.

During the program, which started in Klaipėda on October 10 at 10 a.m., three companies were introduced: Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, SC Klaipėda Stevedoring Company and UAB Klaipeda Container Terminal. Here, first-year full-time (GL19D) and second-year part-time (GL18N) students deepened their knowledge, received advice on what to do for a career and received suggestions for internships that could turn into a good job opportunity.

According to Jurgita Ginavičienė, Head of the Department of Transport Management, many of the things seen during the trip are related to certain study programs, such as Business Fundamentals, Manifold Transportations, Warehouses and Terminals.

The students and the lecturers had the opportunity to see the storage of different cargoes and observe stevedoring from vehicles and railway wagons to ships. During the meetings, the structure of the companies was presented in detail, for example, who is subordinate to whom, what are the divisions of work, responsibilities and what one or another department does.

According to J. Ginavičienė, one of the initiators of the trip, many delegates of companies emphasized the benefits from the college. "It is highly recommended that students learn and "pull" all the knowledge from the teachers. He said that everything and even more should be taken from the college".

In the abundance of special information it is important not to forget the languages: English, Russian, German and Polish - learning them opens many windows because such languages predominate in Lithuania.
