About Faculty
The Faculty of Design was established in 2002 after the reorganisation of the Vilnius Higher School of Construction and the establishment of the Vilnius College of Construction and Design, and its origins date back to the time of the Vilnius Technical College of Construction, when it started to train Architecture students.
The Faculty of Design is a community of developers and educators united by common goals, which trains highly qualified interior, graphic, interactive design and photographic technology specialists in demand in the market, who are able to adapt to its changing needs and professionally realise their creative ideas. Studies are offered in full-time and part-time form.
The faculty's lecturers are actively involved in artistic and scientific activities, most of them are professionals in their chosen field. They constantly improve their qualifications in various courses, seminars, conferences and internships, participate in competitions, exhibitions and open-air exhibitions, prepare and implement various projects in Lithuania and abroad.
The Faculty actively cooperates with educational institutions in Lithuania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
The Faculty of Design is constantly changing and developing:
In 2007-2008, the material base of the Faculty was renewed: an editing room and a Photographic Technology Laboratory were built under the project "Modernisation of the visual base for specialists in the fields of construction, railway transport and design", which was awarded by the College under the EU Structural Funds;
In 2008-2009, the Faculty of Design installed drawing rooms in the Faculty of Technology building at 16 Olandų Street;
2009-2010 Graphic Studio with workshops;
In 2010-2012, as part of the EU Structural Funds project "Modernisation of the Study Infrastructure of Vilnius College of Technology and Design", which was awarded by the College, the infrastructure of the Faculty of Design and Graphic Arts was reorganised and modernised, and in 2014 the Faculty of Design and Graphic Arts was moved to modern premises at Olandų g. 16.
The Faculty of Design consists of 2 departments:
- Design
- Media
Each department curates two study programmes: the Design Department curates the study programmes "Graphic Design" and "Interior Design"; the Media Department - "Multimedia Design" and "Photography Technology".
The study programmes at the Faculty of Design are constantly updated, taking into account design trends, market needs, educational innovations and the new requirements for professionals.
In 2010-2011, after the implementation of the EU Structural Funds project VP1-2.2-ŠMM-07-K-01-122 "Improvement of the Quality of Design and New Media Studies", the study programmes were renewed, the content of the programmes was more focused on the results of the studies and adapted to respond flexibly to the changes in technology and market needs, introducing or changing new specialisations, and allowing for a wide application of innovative methods of teaching (si). All this brings the studies of the Faculty of Design closer to the standards of design and multimedia in foreign schools and facilitates the integration of the College's students (including those from foreign
